Rameshwaram Yatra is one of the famous Char Dhams in India and a holy pilgrimage tour to Rameshwaram is considered sacred in Hindu religion. Rameshwaram is the holy place where Lord Rama came to search his wife Sita and constructed Rama Setu in order to reach Lanka (now Sri Lanka) to fight Ravana. As per Hindu epic Ramayana, Lord Rama established the Shivlinga here and prayed to Lord Shiva to acquit any sins done in war against Ravana.

Situated at Pamban Island, Rameshwaram is a picturesque town and along with Ramanathaswamy Temple, there are around 64 Theerthams (Teerths) which are ponds and temple, consider sacred. Over 5 Lakh pilgrims visit Rameshwaram every year.

Ramanathaswamy Temple

Ramanathaswamy Temple is a sacred Hindu temple and Lord Shiva is the presiding diety of the temple. Located in Rameshwaram town, the temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga, considered as most revered shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Linga in the temple is believed to have been established by Lord Rama himself in order to worship to get rid of sins done during the war against demon king Ravana.

The temple complex is huge consisting various shrines and halls with beautiful interiors. The artistic work on the walls and pillars attracts every visitors eyes. There are 22 sacred Teerthams (Tirths) in the temple which signifies 22 arrows in Lord Rama's quiver.
