Every year, thousands of pilgrims undertake the challenging Amarnath Yatra to the holy Amarnath Cave Temple. The yatra takes place during the month of July and August. This year Amarnath Yatra will start on 1st July and conclude on 15th August. The 45 days yatra to Amarnath Cave will take place around the month of Shravan.

The legend and mythology of Amarnath is fascinating and devotees travel to Amarnath Temple to get a glimpse of the ice shivling and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.

You can register either online or offline. The registration fee is Rs.100. If, due to some circumstances, you are unable to register before the yatra, you can opt for on-spot registration, where you can register on the day of the yatra.On-spot registration fees is Rs.150.

Note: It is better to complete the normal registrations and not wait for on-spot registrations as the number of quotas on on-spot registration depends directly on the number of vacant seats left after normal registrations. The queue for the registration is pretty long and normally takes around 8-12 hours to complete.

  • The shrine is about 5000 yrs. old and has numerous references in ancient Hindu texts.
  • The Holy Cave is visited by pilgrims during the festival of Shravan Mela in July-August, which also coincides with the Hindu month of Shravan.
  • The Chhadi Mubarak is carried by a Muslim and also the shrine itself is believed to be discovered by a Muslim.
  • There are two routes to reach Amarnath Shrine one from Baltal and another from Pahalgam.

Amarnath Yatra Important Tips (Things to Know before Planning to Amarnath Yatra 2019)

  • Registration for the Yatra must be made at least a month before its commencement.
  • Start daily walks and breathing excercise atleast a month before yatra starts.
  • Pilgrims should be medically fit before yatra. A medical certificate is mandatory for everyone going on the Yatra.
  • Although medical facilities are available during the Yatra, a first aid is an essential.
  • Instructions issued by the Yatra administration, from time to time must be strictly followed
  • Women are advised to avoid sarees and opt for salwar kameez, track suits or trousers.
  • Hire only a registered ponywalla or porter, Don't attempt short cuts on the route.
