Lovingly called Pondy by the locals, Pondicherry (Puducherry) is a mixture of Indian and French style. Pondicherry beaches of the city are very appealing and attract a lot of tourists. The city has Indian houses styled in French Colony system. The town has colonial buildings, churches, temples, and statues offers a colonial ambience. The modern heritage and spiritual culture is mixed beautifully in this town.

Places To Visit In Pondicherry (Puducherry)

Pondicherry Beach – Blessed with flowing creek on one side the beach is immensely beautiful. The beach has beautiful tree houses on the backwaters that are not only beautiful to stay in but are also in budget stays as compared to hotels and resorts on other beaches. The seashore hosts many activities like beach volleyball, themed event and catamaran rides for travelers.

Raj Niwas – The building served as a palace during French colonization and now is the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor. The palace is open for tourists and is famous for beautiful gardens and sculptures from medieval era.

The Pondicherry Botanical Garden – The place is an example of French Architecture the garden offers fountains, graveled line paths and beautiful flower beds. The place has over 1500 varieties of plants and is excellent place for picnic. Especially on weekends musical shows are organized.

Promenade – Regarded as the best place to visit in Pondicherry it is also known as Goubert Avenue. The place has boulevard and palm trees all around and the place is sea front and has tea stalls and coffee stalls that you should definitely try.

Chunnambar Boathouse – The Chunnambar river is known for its backwater. The boathouses here not only give you a luxurious stay but also many memories that you can never forget. The boat is driven by oarsmen and the boat has one, two or three rooms according to your requirement and also sundeck and balcony.

How to reach Pondicherry

By Air – Pondicherry (Puducherry) has an airport but with less flights to Bangalore. Other nearest international airport is at Chennai.

By Train – The nearest railway station is at Villupuram situated at 35 km from Puducherry. The station is connected to major cities of India.

By Road – Buses connect the place to many major cities of the state and India. State Corporation buses are available for inside and outside routes from Pondicherry.
