How to Reach Amarnath

So if you are coming from outside of Jammu and Kashmir, you may be coming either by Road, Train or Flights. And from the base camps there are four modes available: Helicopters, Horses, Palanquin and your own feet. However, dandies are also available for handicapped and old aged pilgrims.

How To Reach Amarnath By Air

Srinagar is the nearest airport with daily flights from Delhi and Jammu. There are few connecting flights from Chandigarh and Leh in a week. The advantage of Srinagar is that it is home of some the world famous tourist plaes like Dal Lake, Nagin Lake, Shankaracharya Temple and Mughal gardens like Shalimar, Nishat and Cheshma-shahi. It is also gateway to the Kashmir known as “Paradise on Earth“.

From Srinagar you can get private and shared taxis, buses to reach both Pahalgam and Baltal, thus providing you enough scope to choose any route.

By Helicopter: You can also avail Helicopter services to reach Amarnath Temple, it will save lot of time and energy. As of now only there are only three helicopter operators for Amarnath Yatra: Pawan Hans, Global Vectra HeliCorp and Himalayan Heli Services. How To Reach Amarnath By Train

Jammu is the nearest Railway Station and the last point by train. Jammu is known as “CITY OF TEMPLES”, one may visit old temples such as Raghunath Temple, Mahadev Mandir and other temples. Pilgrims have added advantage to visit Vaishno Devi with Amarnath Darshan, if one plans Jammu in its itinerary. The Jammu Railway station is very well connected by trains from various towns of India.

From Jammu you can easily get Taxis and Bus to reach Srinagar Traditional route: Jammu – Patnitop – Anantnag – Pahalgam – Chandanwari – Amarnath

Jammu to Pahalgam (315 km) – The distance between Jammu to Pahalgam can be covered by taxi/buses which are available at Tourist Reception Centre, J & K Govt., Raghunath Bazaar only early in the morning. Another option is going to Srinagar by air and then proceeding to Pahalgam by road, Srinagar to Pahalgam is just 2 hours by Road.
