Saatchi Hanuman Temple in Rameshwaram is one of the most important shrines dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Lord Hanuman is a deity known for his incomparable services to Lord Rama for the search of Devi Sita. The temple is located around 3 km from the Ramanathaswamy temple, on the way to Gandhamathana Parvatham.
It is believed that this is the place where Lord Rama shed tears of happiness when he saw the proof given by Lord Hanuman that Devi Sita is alive, in the form of Goddess Sita’s jewels, called ‘Choodamani’.
This is why the name ‘Saatchi'(evidence) was added prior to the name Hanuman as he gave a proof of Devi Sita being alive. The place has such importance because it is here that Lord Rama then declared Sri Hanuman as one of his truest followers.
Devotees visit this peaceful temple in large numbers, especially on Tuesdays, as it is considered to be the most auspicious day for worshiping Lord Hanuman.
The statues in the temple are carved out of wood and they appear as if they are puppets telling us the various unique incidences of Ramayana. The temple has wonderful manual art piece in form of pictorial representation telling us how Hanuman played a very crucial role during the time of Ramayana.
