About Vaishno Devi Yatra

Vaishno Devi, also known as Mata Rani, Trikuta and Vaishnavi, is a manifestation of the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi. Vaishno Devi Mandir is a holy shrine dedicated to Goddess Vaishno Devi and is located at the top of Trikuta hills in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Every year, more than 10 million pilgrims visit this shrine every year as a part of their pilgrimage known as Vaishno Devi Yatra. Hindus believe that one cannot partake in the Vaishno Devi Yatra unless she herself calls the devotees.

Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra – Katra To Bhawan

The town of Katra in Jammu and Kashmir is the base point of the 13 km trek to the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi where an elaborate Bhawan exists taking care of every possible need of the devotee. The Yatra begins at Katra at a height of 5200 ft and pilgrims have to cover a distance of 13 km to reach the temple. At the end of their pilgrimage, the pilgrims are blessed with the Darshans of the Goddess Vaishnavi inside the Holy Cave. These Darshans are in the shape of three natural rock formations called the Pindies.

Vaishno Devi Pilgrimage

With the huge attendance of devotees that visit Vaishno Devi, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board which oversees the administration and maintenance of the shrine, has made the Vaishno Devi Yatra available all year round 365 days. Darshans are open round the clock throughout the year. Also, a rail line from Udhampur to Katra has been started to facilitate the pilgrimage. The nearest airport is Jammu Airport which has very high flight frequency. All leading domestic airlines have their services to Jammu Airport. In addition to that, there are helicopter services available for the pilgrims which have made the journey to the holy shrine a little easier.
