Siruli Mahavir Temple, Puri

Siruli Mahavir Temple is situated about 33 kms on the north east of Puri town on the way from Puri to Bhubaneswar. From the religious point of view, it is one of the important shrines of Orissa. A huge figure of Lord Hanuman is enshrined in the sanctum who is the presiding deity of the temple. Festivals like Makara Sankranti, Rama Navami, and Dola Purnima are observed in this temple with great interest and splendor.

According to local legends, it is believed that the left eye of the deity in the temple is facing towards Lord Jagannath while the right eye is facing towards Lanka, the native place of Ravana. Devotees have great faith on Lord Mahavir and they attend this Siruli temple in large numbers every day and during various festive seasons.

Siruli Mahavir is situated at a distance of 33 kms from the sacred city of Puri and 75 kms from the capital city of Bhubaneswar. One may also hire a taxi either from Puri or from Bhubaneswar to reach Siruli Mahavir. Famous attractions in and around Siruli Mahavir are Sakhigopal Temple, Raghurajpur and Pipili.
