Apart from being a one of the Char Dham in India and thus a spiritual centre for Vaishnavism, Puri is also regarded as one of the Shakti Peeth (seat of Mother Goddess). The temple is dedicated to Goddess Harachandi in Harachandi Sahi, which means a particular area or street or lane. Harachandi is considered as one of the Asta Chandis (Eight Chandis) of Puri. Auspicious festivals like Navaratri, Durga Puja, and Chaitra Mangala Bara etc. are observed in this temple with great devotion.
Harachandi is also known as one of the Asta Chandi (eight Chandis) of Puri with other seven deities as Vimala, Ramachandi, Vaseli, Varahi, Alamchandi, Dakshina Chandi and Jhadeswari. Although, from an architectural point of view, the shrine is not of much significance but from the religious point of view, it holds a vital place in the cultural history of Puri.
Harichandi Temple located in the Harichandi lane which is in the western direction of Jagannath Temple. The temple is located on the left side of the Harachandi Sahi road leading from Jameswara Siva temple to Dhipa Jaga. One can easily reach the shrine by commuting via bus or taxi.
