Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by Indian Government

The sacred pilgrimage journey to Kailash Mansarovar is conducted every year from June-September by Ministry of External Affairs. The registration for the yatra for this year has started from 9-04-2019.

There are two different routes for the yatra-Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand) and Nathu La Pass (Sikkim). Yatris have to complete various formalities and undergo medical examinations/tests before commencing the yatra.

Who is eligible for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra?

If a candidate wants to apply for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra he/she must fulfill the given below eligibility criteria:

• Must be a citizen of India
• Should have a minimum age of 18 and maximum age of 70 years as on 01 January of current year
• Candidate must possess an Indian Passport valid for minimum six months as on 1 September of the current year
• Foreign Nationals cannot apply. OCI card holders are not eligible
• Candidate must be mentally healthy and physically fit for undertaking the yatra for spiritual purpose
• Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or less

Conditions – Before applying for the yatra an applicant must note the following conditions:

• An incomplete application will be rejected and won’t be included in computerized draw.
• It is the duty of the applicant to provide the correct and complete information in every respect including date of birth, name spelling, etc.
• An applicant applying for the yatra should not suffer from medical ailments like diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, epilepsy, etc.
• Incorrect or false information in the application form will be ground for disqualification at any stage including the yatra.
• For high altitude endurance selected candidates will have to go through and qualify the stated medical examinations conducted by the Delhi Heart and Lung Institute and ITBP Base Hospital in New Delhi.
• Any yatri will not be allowed to continue the yatra if found medically unfit for high altitude endurance at any stage.
• Any yatri at any stage disqualified on medical or any other grounds will forfeit the Confirmation Amount and other payments made earlier.
• Yatra batches will leave on the scheduled date even if the selected candidate is unable to join the group as per scheduled itinerary.
• Applicants going for the yatra first time will be given priority over those who have already undertaken the yatra organized by the Ministry in the previous year.
• Moratorium on applicants would be done for those who had already been on this yatra organized by Ministry in previous years for more than four times. The final decision would be of the competent authority in this Ministry and no representation in this regard would be entertained.
• Applicants against whom any legal or executive sanction is in force or which debars the person from traveling abroad would not be eligible to apply for the yatra.

Selection Process For Kailash Mansarovar Tour

Draw of Lots – Through a fair computer-generated, random, general-balanced selection process yatris will be selected and appointed to different batches by the Ministry of External Affairs. A group of two persons may give an option to travel together in the same batch at the application stage. The application for each applicant should be completed online.

Intimation – After the computerized draw of lots, selected candidates would be informed through automated messages to their registered email id/phone number. An applicant can access the status update by IVRS helpline 011-24300655.

Conditions – Applicants must note the following conditions

• Normally a route and batch allocated to a Yatra through the computerized process cannot be changed. If required a selected candidate can request for change of batch on the basis of some valid justification. The final decision in this matter will be of the Ministry.
• After the computerized draw of lots, to confirm the participation each selected applicant will have to confirm the participation by crediting non-refundable Confirmation Amount before the due date into the designated bank account of the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) or the Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation (STDC).
• If the above-given payment is not made by the cut-off date, the Yatri will be automatically removed from the selected list for the batch to waitlist.
• Confirmed Yatris are required to online re-confirm their participation in the batch before their arrival in Delhi for the yatra. If a yatri fails to do so then their name will be canceled from the list for the batch.
• A yatri according to the itinerary for the batch must report on the scheduled date & time at Delhi Heart & Lung Institute (DHLI). Their names from the batch will be canceled if they fail to do so.
• Registered/ Waitlisted may also report at DHLI for inclusion in a batch against any dropout, subject to availability of vacancy arising due to this reason.

Documents – Selected and confirmed yatris must carry the following listed below documents when they arrive in New Delhi for the yatra:

• Ordinary Indian passport valid for at least six months as on 1 September of the current year
• Colored passport size photograph (6 copies)
• Undertaking for evacuation by helicopter in case of emergency
• Consent Form for cremation of mortal remains on Chinese side in case of death there

A Kailash Parvat yatri would not be allowed to proceed for the yatra if the above mentioned documents are not submitted or not in conformity to the requirement of the current year or deficient in any aspect. The decision of the Ministry would be final in this matter and no representation in this regard will be entertained.

Fees & Expenditure For Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

• Amount paid at any stage is not refundable.
• Amount paid cannot be transferred to any other person.
• Expenditure in INR may vary due to change in rates of exchange.

How To Apply For Kailash Mansarovar Yatra?

• Now the whole application process has been made online. Paper applications will not be accepted.
• To apply online candidate needs to go to https://kmy.gov.in/kmy/. For the year 2019 yatra will be conducted from 8 June to 8 September. The yatra will take place through two routes-Nathu La in Sikkim and Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand.
• Applicants are required to indicate their choice for both the routes in order of their preferences.
• Applicants are also required to select a place as END-POINT to terminate their yatra on return leg:
• Route-1 (Lipulekh) : Dharchula or Delhi
• Route-2 (Nathu La) : Gangtok or Delhi

Following documents are required for the application

• Scanned passport size photograph (in jpg format not exceeding 300 kb in size).
• Scanned copies of first and last pages of ordinary passport containing personal and family details (in pdf format not exceeding 500 kb in size).
• It is mandatory to mention email id and mobile number in the application.

Medical Tests For The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

• Various medical and laboratory tests are conducted before the yatra by Delhi Heart & Lung Institute (DHLI) and ITBP Hospital before the yatra to check the high altitude endurance of the Yatris. While considering the physical fitness of an applicant acceptable reference range and cut-off values for the tests will be applicable. During the medical tests Haemoglobin, Cholesterol, Sugar level, etc is tested.
• For a good fit body candidate must try to lower the BMI (Body Mass Index) level to 25 or less.
• Additional medical test will be conducted by the ITBP at Lipulekh Route (at Gunji) and at Nathu La Route (at Sherathang).
• Medical examination/test fees are not- refundable. Any amount paid by a yatri after selection & confirmation is non-refundable and non-transferable.
