Known all over India for its exquisite Pattachitra scroll painting, Raghurajpur is a small village situated in the Puri district. Situated on the bank of river Bhargavi, Raghurajpur, well famous as Artist village, is surrounded by coconut, palm, mango, jackfruit groves and other tropical trees. Its is the hub of Raghurajpur Patachitra paintings. The local artisans are known for their amazing handicrafts and scroll paintings that attract tourists. It is said that at Raghurajpur crafts village, every villager is an artist and every house is an artist’s studio.
The village offers an artistic ambience. Neatly ranged houses adorn beautiful mural paintings on their walls depicting scenes from Mahabharata and Ramayana. One comes across the best tradition of Orissan paintings and some of the finest pieces of work in this village. The presiding deity of this village is Goddess Bhuasuni and there is a temple is dedicated to her.
Raghurajpur can be reached by taking a bus or taxi to Chandanpur, which is 10 km from the revered city of Puri and 50 km from Bhubaneswar on NH 203. One may also hire a taxi either from Puri or from Bhubaneswar to reach the village.
