Mathur Shiva Temple in Thrissur, Kerala

Mathur Shiva Temple is one of the most revered Hindu shrines located in Kunnamkulam, Thrissur. It is believed that the shrine was built around 2000 years devotees believe that the Shiva Linga is Rudraksha Sila which is red colour, irregular in shape and untouched by the human sculptor. It is one of the revered 108 Shiva Temples located in Kerala. Sreekovil in Mathur Shiva Temple is circular. Lord Siva from the Sreekovil faces the west, while Goddess Parvathy Devi faces east.

Mathur Shiva Temple is famous for its unique architecture. The temple features a rare architecture of Vatta Sreekovil with two inner corridors. A pond and big banyan trees surround the ancient temple.

Festivals/Events Celebrated at Mathur Shiva Temple in Kerala

  • Prasada Oottu: This is a ritual at the Mathur Shiva Temple. Conducted on the first Monday of every Malayalam month arrangements for free feeding for the pilgrims.
  • Bhakti Prabhashanam: Vattamkulam Sankunni Master organizes it on the first Monday of every Malayalam month.
  • Ramayana Parayanam Padanaram: Tuitions for Ramayana are arranged at temple premises every day in the month of Karkidaka.
  • Sreekrishna Jayanthi Ghoshayathra: For this, a colourful procession of children dressed as Krishna and Radha is carried out. The parade is followed by Chendamelam at the temple premises.
