The festival of Konark organized a cultural dance event that showcases the cultural vibrance of the state of Orissa. The festival takes place on the open air auditorium in the backdrop of majestic Konark Temple with an aim to bring in many performers into its cultural family and creating of international cultural friendship and brotherhood. This festival is one of the popular attractions in Odisha.
The festival has recognized its own distinctiveness in the sense that talented dancers and their troupes of national and international reputation join and perform Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Kathak, Manipuri, Mohiniattam, Chhau and other tribal, folk and classical dances on the stage of the Konark Natyashala. The performance under the sky is something to cherish.
In addition to the dance performances, there is also a sand art exhibition and crafts fair that gather eyeballs for its brilliant sand art, beautiful handicrafts and delectable cuisine. The main objective of Konark festival is to promote tourism in Odisha and especially the UNESCO-certified Konark Sun Temple.
Konark Temple is situated at a distance of 35 kms from the revered city of Puri and kms from the capital city of Bhubaneswar. One may also hire a taxi either from Puri or from Bhubaneswar to reach the temple. Famous tourist attractions in and around Konark Temple are Ramachandi, Chandrabhaga, Kakatpur, Kuruma, Chaurasi, Balighai and Beleswar.
