One of the main reasons millions of pilgrims attend the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar is to take a holy dip (Snan) in the sacred waters of the Ganges River on astrologically significant days. These special bathing days are known as Snan Parva, when the spiritual merit of bathing in the river is believed to be exceptionally powerful.
According to Hindu beliefs, taking a ritual bath during the Kumbh Mela helps cleanse past sins and purify the soul. Devotees believe that bathing in the holy Ganga on these auspicious dates can free a person from the cycle of birth and death and lead toward Moksha (spiritual liberation).
During the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar, certain days are considered especially sacred and attract the largest crowds of pilgrims, saints, and Akharas. On Shahi Snan (Royal Bath) days, different monastic orders of sadhus enter the river in grand ceremonial processions before the general public takes the holy dip.
One of the most important and common reason to attend the largest holy festival Kumbha Mela is to take dip in the Holy river on auspicious dates. It is said that holy dip in sacred river during Maha Kumbh or Ardh Kumbh takes human out of the circle of life & death (also called as Moksha or salvation).
