Triyuginarayan Temple in Sonprayag, Uttarakhand

Located in Rudraprayag, the temple is perched at an elevation of 1,980 metres above the sea level. It is one of the highly revered pilgrimage spots in India. It is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Temple’s architecture resembles the Kedarnath Dham temple. The unique feature of the temple is that Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Lord Vishnu can be worshipped in a single place.

Age-old legends state that it is here Lord Shiva had married Parvati. Thus, devotees have a staunch belief that one who worships in the Triyuginarayan Temple, is blessed with an ideal life partner. The temple is 12 km from Sonprayag after which devotees need to trek. There are different routes crafted for the Yatris.

Triyuginarayan Temple is Famous For

The temple is highly revered amongst the devotees as Lord Shiva, and Goddess Parvati’s wedding took place here. He proposed to her in Guptkashi. The celestial marriage was formalized by Lord Vishnu, while Lord Brahma was the priest of the glorious wedding. Akhanda Jyoti that burns throughout the year is believed to be a testimony to the wedding. Brahma Shila marks the exact location of the wedding. It is thought that before commemorating the marriage, all the sages took a holy dip in Rudra Kund, Vishnu Kund, Saraswati Kund and Brahma Kund.

Festivals/Events Celebrated at Triyuginarayan Temple in Uttarakhand

Navratri or Durga Puja is celebrated as a symbol of victory of good over evil in the Triyuginarayan Temple. Navratri celebrations include stage decorations, recital of the legend, enacting of the story as well as chanting of the Hindu scriptures.
