Moteshwar Mahadev Temple in Kashipur is one of the highly revered temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is regarded as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. Believed to be constructed around 302 A.D, the temple complex includes a BhairavNath temple and a Shiv Ganga Kund. There is a Maa Jagdamba Bhagwati Balsundari temple close to Moteshwar Mahadev temple.
Lord Shiva is believed to be in Kamroop. The temple has its mention in the Mahabharath as Dakini. Adi Shankaracharya and Kalidas have referred to the temple in their work.
Other deities worshipped in the temple are Parvati, Kartikeya, Ganesha, Hanuman, Kali and Bhairo.
Moteshwar Mahadev Temple is famous for its large and still growing Shiva Linga. It is believe that Shiv Linga is so large that no one can touch the whole with two hands. As it is growing, till now rises to second floor of the temple.
Shivaratri is celebrated on a grand scale in Moteshwar Mahadev temple. Other festivals celebrated here are Shravan Mela and Chaiti Mela.
