Laxmi Narayan Temple (Birla Temple)

The Laxmi Narayan temple is located at Mandir Marg, Near Gole market west of Cannaught Place New Delhi. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. In the Hindu religion, Narayan refers to Lord Vishnu. The temple is constructed by the Baldeo Das Birla of the Birla family. The temple is inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1939. The temple has other shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Krishna, and Buddha. The temple is spread over 7.5 acres. This temple is also known as Birla Temple.

About Laxmi Narayan Temple

The Laxmi Narayan temple is located at the Mandir Marg, Near Gole Market New Delhi. The construction of the mandir has started in 1933 by the Birla family. The temple is dedicated to the Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi.

In Hinduism, Narayan refers to Lord Vishnu. The Temple has spread over the 7.3 acres of land. The main architect of the temple was Sri Chandra Chatterji. The temple constructed on the swadeshi theme.

Birla temple took almost 6 years to ready. The temple is inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1939. But Mahatma Gandhi inaugurates the temple with the condition that the temple should be allowed for the people of all caste. There should not be any partiality with any caste.

Architecture of Laxmi Narayan Temple (Birla Temple)

The main architecture of the Laxmi Narayan temple was Sris Chandra Chatterji. The architecture is influenced by the Indian Swadeshi Movement. The main temple is in a three-story building in the northern or Nagra Style.

The main Shikhar of the temple is 160 ft high. The temple is spread over 7.3 acres of land. The Side temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva, Krishna, and Buddha. The temple is made by the Red sandstone. Artificial landscape and cascading waterfalls add to the beauty of the temple. The north Bhawan is dedicated to Lord Krishna.

The entire complex is adorned with frescos and paintings depicting scenes and narrating stories from the major texts of Hinduism. The icons of the temple are in marble brought from Jaipur. Kota. Icons of the temple are carved by the team of skilled artisans headed by the Acharya Vishwanath Sastri. There is a tall statue of Lord Laxminarayan in the middle hall of the temple. The Geeta Bhawan, a hall is decorated with beautiful paintings. The walls of the temple are full of paintings.

History Of Lakshmi Narayan Temple (Birla Temple)

The foundation stone was laid by the Maharaja Udaybhanu Singh. The temple is constructed by the Baldeo Das Birla of Birla family in 1933. The architecture took 6 years for ready. It was the first temple of the Birla temple series.

The architect of this temple was Sris Chandra Chatterji. Over 1000 skilled artists carved the icons of the temple. The temple was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi with the condition that the temple should allow people of all the caste.

Festivals In Laxmi Narayan Mandir (Birla Mandir)

    Janmashtami gets to celebrate on the occasion of the birth of Lord Krishna. During the festival, the temple is lit up and thousands of devotees come here to pay reverence to the deity and celebrate the occasion.

    During the festival of the Ramnavmi, a large number of the devotees arrive at the temple. The temple get decorates with flowers and lights.
