Chettikulangara Devi Temple is one of the most famous Hindu temples in Mavelikara, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy. It is believed that in the morning the Goddess appears to be Maha Saraswati, Maha Lakshmi by the afternoon and Maha Kaali in the evening.
Devotees visit the temple to perform rituals like Thottam Pattu, Sarpam Pattu, Payasam, Kadum Payasam, Thirimadura Nivedya, Kumkum Abhisheka and Pushparchana. There are different festivals hosted in the temple. Special poojas are organized on Tuesdays and Fridays. As an offering to Maha Bhadrakali, a lamp with 1001 lighting points is lit on the first day of each month.
Chettikulangara Devi Temple is located about 4 kilometres west of Mavelikkara, 7 kilometres north of Kayamkulam on Kayamkulam - Thiruvalla Highway.
The temple has 13 "Karas". It is at the centre of the oldest four Karas and the rest of the Karas surround the temple, which is believed to be about 1,200 years old.
Sree Bhadrakali is the main deity worshipped in the temple. ‘Bhadra’ means good and ‘Kali’ means Goddess of time. She is an incarnation of Shakthi Devi, born to kill the demon king Daruka.
Sub-Deities at the Temple are Yakshini, Ganapathi, Naga Yakshi, Thevara Moorthy, Nagarajav, Balakan, Muhurthi, Kannamballi Bhagavata, Rekshas and Vallyachan.
