Adichikkavu Sree Durga Devi Kshetram Temple

Adichikkavu Sree Durga Devi Kshetram is also known as the Adichie Kavu Devi Temple. It is one of the oldest temples in Pandanad, Alappuzha. The temple is about 6 km west of Chengannur, and 4 km east of Mannar. Adichikkavu Sree Durga Devi Kshetram is dedicated to goddess Sree Vana Durga. The major attraction of the temple is its top opened Sreekovil, specially made for Vana Durga. The temple complex also includes Anakottil & Sapthaha Mandapam which is built on the north-west side of the temple.

Adichie Kavu Devi Temple is Famous For

It is one of the oldest temples in Kerala and houses shrines of sub-deities – Yakshi Amma, Nagarajav, Nagayakshi and Brahmarakshas.

Festivals/Events Celebrated at Adichie Kavu Devi Temple, Kerala

  1. Pathamudayam : It is the major festival celebrated in Adichikkavu Sree Durga Devi Kshetram. It takes place in the temple in April.
  2. Sapthaha Yajnam : Every year, Sapthaham is celebrated for seven days.
  3. Pongala : Women gather each year in this temple to prepare Pongala in small pots to please the Goddess Durga.
  4. Parayeduppu : Parayeduppu is a happening festival season. Before the Pathamudayam, Devi visits the homes of the devotees in Pandanad area.
  5. Navaha Yajnam : Every year, Navaha Yajnam is celebrated for nine days on a grand scale.
