Thirupalkadal SreeKrishna Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala

Thirupalkadal Sree Krishna Temple also known as Thiruparkadal Sreekrishnaswamy Temple, is one of the oldest Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Krishna. It is located in Keezharoor, Kerala. It was constructed in the 9th century AD, i.e. about 2000 years ago and is a classic example of the Dravidian style architecture. Lord Krishna’s idol is four-armed standing carrying the conch - Panchajanya, Sudarshana Chakra, Kaumodaki and a lotus with a Holy basil garland. Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva carvings can be seen on the outer wall of the circular-shaped Garbhagriha. The roof of sanctum sanctorum is complete with 36 rafters which multiplied by 3, representing Trimurtis equals 108 peethas of Adi parasakthi.
 
The main deity was the family deity of Ay Family, who ruled during the Sangam period. Later the kingdom and family came to be known as Venad Keezhperoor Swaroopam. Thirupalkadal Sreekrishnaswamy Temple is one of the 108 principal Divya Desams in Vaishnavism and glorified shrine in the Divya Prabandha.
 
Sub deities worshipped in the temple are Ganesha, Muruga and Nandi. Granite walls enclose the temple complex.
