The Chintpurni Temple is located at the Una district in Himachal Pradesh. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess Chinamasta who is incarnation of the goddess Durga. It is also known as Chinamasta temple. It is one of the 51 Shaktipeetha in India. Chintpurni Temple is a revered shrine of the Hindus. The idol of the goddess Chintpurni is in the form of Pindi. Many Devotees have been flocking Shaktipeeth for centuries to worship at the lotus feet of Mata Shri Chhinnamastika Devi. The temple is surrounded by the western Himalayan Mountains.
It is believed that when Goddess Sati burned herself in Yagna Kund. Lord Shiva picked her body and started Tandav. After this Lord Vishnu cut the body of Goddess in several parts. At the places where the pieces fell, the fifty-one sacred ‘Shaktipeeths’ came into being. Goddess Sati’s head Fall at Chintpurni.
Mai Das was a devotee of the Goddess. The Goddess came in his dream and asked him to build a temple at this place. It is believed that Mai Das built the temple of Devi Chintpurni at Chhaproh village twelve generation ago. His descendants still live in Chintpurni and perform prayers and Pooja at the Chintpurni temple. These descendants are the official priests at the Temple.
Another story is that Lord Shiva will protect the goddess from four directions. There are four Shiva temple in four direction of Goddess Chintpurni with in equal distance.
The temple has simple structure. The main shrine of the goddess Chintpurni is coated with the gold. There are many small temples of lord Hanuman, Lord Ganesh, Goddess Durga. The idol of the goddess Chintpurni is in the form of Pindi. The idol id covered with the flowers. The surface of the temple is covered with the white marble. A huge tree of Bargad also situated in the temple complex. Devotees tie a thread on this tree to fulfil their wishes. Idol of the Devi Chinmastika is also there.
The Devi is present in the form of Pindi. Also the Lord Shiva protects the temple from four directions. The feet of Goddess Chitpurni also worshipped here. The temple of Devi Chinnamastika is here. The story behind is that once Goddess accidently cut her head. The blood spurted in three ways, Jaya and Vijaya drank the blood from two directions and the Goddess herself drank the blood from the third.
Chaitra Navaratri – Chaitra Navaratri is celebrated in temple. Large numbers of devotees comes from the different parts of the country for the blessings. On the occasion of this festivals the temple is decorated with the flower. A 10 days Mela also held by the temple authorities.
Sawan Asthami – On the occasion of Sawan Asthami a 10 days Mela held in the temple. Devotees come in to temple for taking blessing from Lord Shiva.
Asuj Navaratri – Asuj Navaratri is also celebrated in the temple with very warm. You can see the long queues for the darshan of goddess Chintpurni.
The temple opened for visitors every morning at 5.30 a.m. and close 9.30 p.m. in summer. The timing in the winter is 4.00 a.m to 10.00 p.m.
Morning Aarti – The morning Aarti performed in the morning at 6.00 a.m.
Evening Aarti – The evening Aarti performed at 8.00 p.m.

Summer : During the months of summer (Mar to June), the temperature can be pleasant. But you should carry light woolen clothes.
Monsoon : In the monsoon there can be heavy rainfall. The temperature remains humid and warm.
Winter : In the winter the temperature can reach sub zero level. You should advise to wear heavy woollen clothes.
