Chinakkathoor Temple in Palakkad, Kerala

Sree Chinakkathoor Bhagavathy Temple in Palappuram is about 5 km from Ottapalam in Palakkad. The holy shrine is located in the middle of a huge ground where the Chinakkathoor pooram is celebrated with great pomp each year.

There are two shrines in Sree Chinakkathoor Bhagavathy Temple: Thazhekavu (lower Shrine) and Melukavu (Upper Shrine). Melakavu-the upper shrine is believed to be older than the lower one, Thazekavu. The priests of the upper shrine belong to the Kulangara nair family of Palappuram. Namboothiri priests conduct pooja in the lower shrine. There is a shrine dedicated to Lord Ganapati, who is believed to be in his divine "Vidya Ganapati" form.

Festivals/Events Celebrated at Chinakkathoor Temple in Kerala

Chinakkathoor Festival is celebrated annually in February-March. The highlight of the festivalĀ  is a grand procession of 28 tuskers. Traditional performances of temple orchestra along with art forms like Vellattu, Theyyam, Poothanum thirayum, Kaalavela, Kuthiravela, Aandi Vedan, and Karivela are organised too.
