Anikkattilammakshethram is a highly revered Hindu shrine located in Mallappally, South Kerala. Devotees know the temple as Mallappally Anikkattilamma Shiva Parvathy temple. Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati are worshipped together in a sanctum. Lord Shiva is in the form of Kiratha with bow and arrow in his arms while Goddess Parvati has a sword in her hand. Sub-deities worshipped in the temple are Bhadra, Nagaraja, Rakshasas and Yakshi Amma in the sub-abodes in the courtyard. Both the idols are about 4 feet in height and are installed side by side. It is believed that the temple is about 1600 years old.
Devotees believe that Anikkattilamma possesses supreme powers, and grants all the wishes of her devotees. Women testify to the supreme authority of this shrine, as they think that after worshipping Anikkattilamma they have been blessed by progeny and wishes of an abundant life.
The Pongala Pooja – an eight-day long festival is celebrated during Kumbham. The annual festival commences on Rohini day of Malayalam month during February-March and concludes on the day of Pooram star. This festival is celebrated with great zest and attracts devotees from various parts of Kerala.
