Yogmaya or also known as Jogmaya temple is an ancient temple. The Yogmaya temple is situated in the near of Qutub Minar complex, Mehrauli New Delhi. This temple is believed to built in the period of the Mahabharat era. Mehrauli is one of the ancient cities of India. The temple is dedicated to the sister of Lord Krishna. Yogmaya is an incarnation of the goddess Durga.

It is one of the surviving temples from the Mahabharat era. The temple was built by the Rajput king Anandpal in 731 AD. Later this temple is rebuilt during the Mughal era by the Lala Sathmal.
It is one of those temples which was tried to destroyed by the Mohammad Gazni. This temple is also said to be one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. And at this spot, the head of the Devi had fallen in the Pind form. The temple lies adjacent to the Pond(Jihad)and surrounded by the green trees.
Dedicated to Goddess Maya
It is believed in Hinduism. Uncle of Lord Krishna wants to kill the Krishna. He was waiting for the birth of Lord Krishna. But when the child got birth she was a girl. Kansa tried to kill the girl child but she miracle escaped and then she said to the Kansa his brother (Lord Krishna) will kill him.
Another story is that Mughal emperor Akbar had exiled his son Jahangir from the Royal family because he fired at a British person and kill his bodyguard. The mother of the Jahangir has got upset and pray for his security and wellness. Yogmaya appeared in the dream of the Jahangir’s mother. Then the queen said if her son will return home safely then she will place Punkahmade of flowers at the Yogmaya temple and in the nearby Muslim shrine of Qutbuddin Bhaktiar Khaki.
The architecture of the temple is contemporary. There is a main gate of the entrance after that there is a hall where the Yogmaya idol is lying. The entire idol is covered with the clothes. The idol is made with the black stone and placed in 2 feet wide and 1 foot deep well. Two small pankhas (fans) of the same materials are seen suspended over the Idol from the roof. The sanctum is about 17 feet with a flat roof. There is a Shikhar mounted on that roof. The floor of the temple was originally built with the red stone but later it has made with the marble. The main tower of the sanctum is about 42 feet high. The temple has seven shikhara and coated with white paint. The walls and the pillars are well crafted by the skilled craftsmen. There is a shiv Linga also which is put little higher than the Yogmaya’s idol.
The temple is believed to Mahabharat’s era. This is an ancient temple. Firstly it was built in the 731 AD by the Rajput king Anandpal. After this Mahmood Ghazni had tried to destroy the temple but somehow the temple got survived. Then the temple is renovated in the period of Mughal emperor Akbar by Lal shamal. Later the temple is rebuilt in 1827 with contemporary architecture. It is said that Mughal emperor Aurangzeb also tried to build a mosque in the place of the temple but was not successful. Later the present temple was built by the Devotees. But the garbhgrah is same as from the ancient time.
Phool walon ki Sair Festivals
This festival celebrated in the month of September and October. In these festivals, floral fans are offered at this temple along with the Dargah of Baba Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki, which is situated close by.
Along with the Phoolon ki Sair festival may other festivals celebrate by the temple authority like Navaratri, Shivaratri.
