Thiruvambadi Krishna Temple is accoladed as one of the largest Krishna Temples in the state. The architecture of the temple is awe-inspiring. Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu Bhagavathy Temple are the two groups that participate in Thrissur Pooram. Lord Krishna with Devi Vishnumaya is worshipped religiously at this temple. The original temple was constructed in the 16th century, while Raja Rama Varma made the current structure in the 18th century.
The main deity at Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple is Unnikrishnan, that is Lord Krishna in his infant form. Goddess Bhagavathy is consecrated in a shrine on the left of Lord Krishna and worshipped with equal devotion.
Lord Ganesha and Dharmasastha are worshipped too in the Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple but in separate shrines. Other deities outside the temple walls are Kukshi Ayyappa, Manikanda, Ghandakarna, Raktheswari and Bhairava.

Thrissur Pooram is a famous 7-day festival celebrated in the temple. From the flag hoisting day, the deity is carried on the elephant to houses of the devotees. These devotees receive the god in with great zest. They offer paddy and other agricultural products in full measures to the almighty. The event is called Parayeduppu. The Para offering can be made at the temple premises too.
Other major festivals celebrated in Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple are Navarathri, Sri Krishna Jayanthi, Vaikunda Ekadasi, Kuchela Dinam, Thiru Utsava, and Sahasrakalasam.
