Pathiyanadu Sree Bhadrakali Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala

Pathiyanadu Sree Bhadrakali Temple dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali is located in Mullassery, Kerala. Other deities worshipped in the temple are Lord Maha Ganapathy and Nagaraja. There is a sub-temple dedicated to Madan Thampuran in the temple premises.

According to one of the mythological stories associated with the temple, a demon named Darika received a boon from Lord Brahma that he would never be defeated by any man living in the fourteen worlds of Hindu mythology. This made Darika both powerful and arrogant. Losing his control, the Demon, took off to conquer the world, defeating Lord Indra. Shocked by this intolerable atrocities, all the Devas went to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva to turn Lord Brahma’s boon, declared that Goddess Kali would kill the Demon. The Goddess beheaded the Demon.

Festivals/Events Celebrated at Pathiyanadu Sree Bhadrakali Temple in Kerala

Pathiyanadu Sree Bhadrakali Temple Festival is held annually between February and March. Dikkubali Mahotsavam is held every three years, and Paranettu Mahotsavam is held every six years. These Festivals commence in Malayalam month of Kumbham and Nakshatra Bharani. Hence, they are called Kumbhabharani Mahotsavam.

Various cultural programmes are held during these festivals. Several awards like Sadh Chitra award, Kalamadhyamasreshtta Puraskaaram are bestowed upon talented individuals. The Kalamadhyamasreshtta Puraskaaram is given to individuals who have excelled in the fields of Films, Media, etc.
