Palakkavu Bhagavathi Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala

Edava Palakkavu Bhagavathi Temple is located in Thiruvananthapuram. Goddess Bhadrakali is the presiding deity of the temple. It is a beautiful shrine with immense historical importance. The major festival celebrated in Palakkavu Bhagavathi Temple is The Karthika Thirunal Mahotsavam. The 9-day festival is held in Karthika Nakshatra in the Kumbham month.

Goddess Bhadrakali in this temple is believed to be an avatar of Palakkavilamma. The Upadevtas worshipped in the temple are Lord Ganesh, Goddess Annapurna, Yogewaran, Sun God, Anjaneya and Nagarukavu. Navagraha and Brahma Rakshasas are worshipped in the temple too.

  • The Karthika Thirunal Mahotsavam – It is a significant festival celebrated over ten days during Kartika Nakshatra in the Kumbham month. It ends with Ghosayathra and Ezhunnallathu. Various cultural and traditional programs are held in subsequent days. Prime attractions of this festival are Three Kodiyettu, Ahaspooja, Sree Bhootha Bali, Utsava Bali, Kalamzhuthum Pattum, Thottam pattu, Ponkkala, Pallivetta, Ghosayathra, Aarattu, Thookapayattu, Garuda Parippu and Thrikodiyirakku.
  • Srimad Bhagavatha Sapthaha Yajnam – Annually Bhagavatha Sapthaha yajna, during May/June is conducted in the temple.
  • Prathishta Varshikam – It is an anniversary conducted on Pooyam nakshatra in Medam. On the day, special pooja and Kalasabhishekam are organized in the temple.
  • Mandalakalam – It is the festival celebrated in connection with the annual Utsavam of Sabarimala Temple.
