On your Kerala tour do visit Kunnathurpadi, Kannur where Lord Sree Muthappan reigns. The mountain ranges here touch the sky and are a feast for the eyes. It stands 3,000 feet above sea level, on top of Udumbu Mala in the Sahyadris. The location is lovely and is called Udumban mala.
Worship of Lord Sree Muthappan is unique as the primary mode of prayer is not by idol worship, but using a ritual enactment of Muthappan. Fish is used as an offering to the deity, and people of all castes, religions and nationalities are allowed to enter the temple and worship.
At Kunnathurpadi, Sree Muthappan is invoked from Puralimala. On the first day of the festival four theyyams appear at Padi - Puthiya Sri Muthappan, Puramkala Sri Muthappan, Naduvazhi San Daivam and Thiruvappana.
