Kamakshi Ekambareshwarar Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala

Sri Kamakshi Sametha Ekambareswarar temple is the Sannidhi of Lord Ganesha. It is one of the 275 paadal petra sthalams, where most revered Saivite saints have sung the glories of this temple. The Sannidhi next to Lord Ganesha’s is Jagathguru Sankaracharya of Kanchi. To the right of Ganesha’s idol is Lord Subramanya. Kamakshi Amman and Ekambareswarar’s Sannidhis are present in the middle of the temple. Important festivals observed in Kamakshi Ekambareswarar Temple include Maha Shivaratri. Pradosha pooja performed every month.
 
In the Kamakshi Ekambareswarar Temple Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of Earth Linga. At a cascading height of 192 feet, the central temple tower is one of the tallest in South India. The main structure bears big stone pillars with carvings. Alongside the main temple, there is a 3500 years old mango tree. It is believed that Devi Parvati performed penance on the bank of the Kamba river under this tree. The four branches of the tree is a talisman of the four Vedas, and each branch bears fruits of different tastes.

Festivals/Events Celebrated at Kamakshi Ekambareshwarar Temple in Kerala

A dozen of festivals are observed in the temple. The most important of these is the Panguni Brahmotsavam that lasts ten days during March and April. It concludes with the celebration of Kalyanotsavam. It is one of the most popular of all the temple festivals in Kanchipuram.
