Hariyali Devi Temple in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand

Hariyali Devi Temple, situated in Uttarakhand, is one of the famous temples in the country with a rich mythological background and significance. As the name suggests, the presiding deity here of Hairyali Devi, popularly known as Vaishno Devi as well. However, the Hariyali Devi Temple is home to two other idols of Heet Devi and Khstrapal in the main temple. It is considered to be one of the 58 Siddha Peethas and is located on the outskirts of Rudraprayag district.

Hariyali Devi Temple is Famous For

Located at an altitude of 1371 meters, Hariyali Devi Temple is surrounded by lush greenery on all sides. A scenic view of the mountains shaped in a semilunar fashion is promised to fill one’s heart with awe with beauty. This temple is also famous for the Hariyali Devi idol which is regally bejewelled and beautifully carved. According to a prominent mythological belief, considered to be the seventh issue of Devki, Mahamaya was dropped by the evil Kansa on earth violently. Different parts of her body were believed to strew in different parts. Her hand fell in the area of the Hariyali Devi Temple, making it a Siddha Peetha.

Festivals/Events Celebrated at Hariyali Devi Temple in Uttarakhand

  • Deepavali and Janamasthami are two prevalent festivals celebrated at this temple. On these days, the idol of Hariyali Devi is carried 7 kilometres away to Haiyali Kantha for worship.
