Alathiyur Hanuman Temple in Malappuram, Kerala

Alathiyur Hanuman Temple is a famous Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Rama, Bharatha and Lord Hanuman in Alathiyur. Legends state that the Deity of Hanuman in the temple was installed about 3000 years ago by Sage Vasishtha - one of the seven great sages of Hindu Mythology. Lord Rama is the presiding Deity in the Alathiyur Hanuman Temple. Although all the poojas and rituals held here are in the honour of Lord Rama, the devotees address the temple as ‘Hanuman Kavu’ Temple. It’s an ode to Hanuman’s unwavering devotion towards Lord Rama.

Lord Hanuman’s temple is adjacent to the temple of Sri Rama. A platform is built to commemorate Hanuman’s leap to Lanka over the sea. The large granite stone at one end of this platform symbolizes the sea.
